Some say brand board, style guide, inspirational board, or brand guide. I like to call it brand board.
So what is a “brand board?” It is a graphic/file that contains your primary logo, secondary logo (if you have one), color palette (scheme), fonts, design elements, and visual elements needed to keep your brand consistent. It is ideal to have when communicating with your graphic designer and others that will work on your brand. I like to say it is the foundation to your brand.
Don’t get a brand board and style board confused. There is a difference between the two. A style board is a compilation of things that inspire your brand and a brand board is the actual elements that consist of your brand.
Here is an example of my brand board and style board in one. At the top, you will see the most important thing my logo. My logo is what you will see throughout my brand. It ‘s my identity. Next you see the colors scheme and color code (RGB shown here) that will be used on my website www.kimberlyannsdesigns.com and other things. Also, my secondary logo is used as an alternative logo. My design element is just an extra design graphic that adds a personal feel. Having your font names are essential to your board because it helps you to let your designer know what font to use when creating marketing collateral. The same is true about your design texture. It is important to have to add to your website, social media, and printed materials.
At the bottom of the board, I have my style elements. These are things that reflect me. They describe Kimberly Ann! A simple, but chic country girl with a hint of city posh that is ready to brand your image and your company.
